Resume & Interviewing Tips and Hints
A well written resume says a lot about the person who wrote it. The better written the resume will usually mean a better quality candidate to the person reviewing it. Here are some helpful tips on how to write a better resume:
- Include the month and year for every position listed on a resume.
- Try to keep a resume to one page. If not possible it should not be any longer than two pages.
- Keep personal information that is unrelated to the job out of a resume.
- Proofread a resume for any spelling errors, typos, and incorrect grammar.
There are several key tips to interviewing well. A well prepared interviewee can really impress a potential employer. Here are some tips to remember and follow before, during, and after an interview:
- Before you interview do some research on the company you are interviewing with.
- Dress professionally no matter what type of position you are applying for.
- Arrive about 10 minutes early.
- Bring at least one copy of your resume to the interview.
- During the interview make sure to make eye contact with the interviewer and always sit up straight.
- Elaborate on your answers. Try not to respond with only a yes or a no.
- Ask at least one question to the interviewer about the duties or responsibilities of the job.
- Don’t chew gum or have any candy in your mouth when interviewing.
- After the interview it’s generally a good idea to send a thank you note to the person who conducted the interview. Try to make sure it’s written and sent in the mail the same day as the interview.
